Trans Families is excited to announce our newest group supporting some of the youngest members of the transgender/nonbinary community! On October 9, the Trans Families team will host its first monthly group meeting for older elementary schoolers (approximately 8- to 10-year-olds).While this is our first recurring monthly group for older elementary youth, this isn’t our first time supporting this age group. We recently hosted cohort-based virtual groups for this age range, and, before our organization went virtual in 2020, we held face-to-face groups for youth of all ages.

Youth in the new recurring group can expect group activities like scavenger hunts, read alouds, show and tell, art, and more to give them a chance to connect with each other.

“We’re always listening to our member families to find out what types of support they need,” said Huddle Blakefield, Senior Program Manager at Trans Families.

“Parents and caregivers have been asking for a group specifically for this age bracket, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer it! We already have a group for parents of elementary schoolers, and we hope that youth and their parents will be able to find community with others in the Trans Families network.”

Besides groups, Trans Families also fosters supportive environments for transgender/nonbinary youth in a private, moderated Discord server, hosts regular game nights, and runs a youth leadership program TYTAN (Trans Youth Taking Action Now).

We know how important community is for both trans/nonbinary youth and their loved ones, and we know that this new group will help foster connections between the youth that attend — register your child for the first meeting.

Note that all of our youth programming, including support groups, is limited to youth whose parents/caregivers are members of Trans Families. Learn more about membership and our resources and support for both youth and adults at TransFamilies.org/Membership.
