Is anyone aware of a trans-inclusive sex-ed curriculum that schools can access? And if so, do any of the local districts use it? We are in the Northshore District, which has been very forward-thinking on trans issues thus far. Anyone aware of a move to update the sex-ed curriculum in the Northshore District?
My daughter will be going through “sex ed” at her school this year for the first time (fifth grade). I’ve looked over the curriculum, and it makes zero mention of trans kids – instead it constantly refers to “boys’ bodies” and “girls’ bodies.” I’ll be meeting with the school’s principal soon to discuss this, but doubt she has much power to modify the curriculum. I suspect we will simply be told to “opt out,” which we may do. But even if it’s too late for us, I’d love to see a better curriculum introduced for trans students who come after us.
I know that Seattle Public Schools was piloting a program to introduce gender identity curriculum into the schools. Has that been implemented district-wide yet? I’d also love to see it adopted in Northshore.
Thanks in advance for your help/advice!!
