Good evening, families! Just wanted to report that we had a great experience today applying for my nonbinary 17 yo Alex’s enhanced state ID with the X gender marker (finally available in WA as of this week). We went to the Bellevue DOL, and were helped by a very nice man named Dave (who told me to come right up to his window when I return next week to upgrade to my own enhanced driver’s license–no need to take a number). The supporting documents we brought were my driver’s license, Alex’s name change certificate from the King County District Court, Alex’s birth certificate from Massachusetts (still with their birth name and gender, since MA doesn’t yet have an X option), their new social security card, and their school transcript with our address printed on it. We received a temporary copy of Alex’s new ID, and are supposed to receive the permanent card in the mail in the next week/two. A note: Starting in Oct. 2020, we adults will also need an enhanced ID to travel domestically through airports. The enhanced ID also allows you to cross the border into Canada.
