I am struggling with the idea of disclosing on Facebook. That is my only social media account which goes back far enough and/or has enough acquaintances to be an issue. Currently I have a large number of FB friends who know my 5 yo as a girl. Since he really started asserting his identity as a boy in early 2020 we have not seen too many people.

The problem is that people online will still use she and his former name. (I have stopped posting pictures or anything with pronouns just to avoid any personal questions.) I don’t feel it is prudent to post any kind of announcement because, as he enters Kindergarten, it may be alerting people who would not otherwise know he had previously been Mis-gendered. Right now my inclination is to cull my friend list and then send a PM to anyone remaining. I would love to know if you see problems with this and/or if there are other suggestions.

    TIA
