Dr. Rachel Levine — Another Possibility Model for our Kids

Rachel Levine

President-elect Joe Biden announced Tuesday he’s nominated Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine for assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Who is Dr. Rachel Levine? She is a possibility model!

Dr. Levine is a transgender women who has been leading Pennsylvania’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She could break barriers and open doors as the first out transgender person appointed to a federal position and approved by the U.S. Senate.

Her appointment to Health and Human Services would help cement changes in department policies and end attacks on LGBTQ health that took place during the previous administration.

Dr. Levine is also a champion of kids!

She is a pediatrics professor at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, previously served as vice-chairperson for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and the Academy for Eating Disorders.

It’s exciting to see such a prestigious person offered a position at this level, who can help our kids see a future without limits.
