Exciting Update for our Youth Programming
We have a very cool update to our youth programs coming soon to better serve our trans/nonbinary youth and increase peer engagement. Starting in January, we are shifting our youth meeting hosting platform from Zoom to our online Youth Community Space, hosted on Discord.
Right now more than 120 youth and moderators use our secure Youth Community Space on Discord to chat about their lives, connect with mentors, join game nights, share their art and music, and explore what it means to be trans/nonbinary. Since opening the space in 2020, we have seen a steady shift of youth participation to it, and away from the zoom groups.
In response, we spent the last three months preparing the space to begin hosting most of our youth groups. All monthly groups will now be hosted in our Youth Community Space except for our Older Elementary Age Youth Group (which will remain on Zoom).
This subtle but important change will streamline the platforms we use, but more importantly, it will allow us to meet your youth where they are – and support them, answer their questions, bolster their confidence, help them find resources, laugh at their jokes, and remind them that they have friends every day.
WHO CAN USE THE YOUTH COMMUNITY SPACE?
All our youth programming is exclusively available to member families of Trans Families. At least one parent/caregiver in a family must complete an intake and orientation, and have set up their TransFamilies.org user account for their youth to use the Youth Community Space. Learn more about membership here.
HOW DO I FIND THE SPACE?
Current members whose trans/nonbinary child wants to join the space can request access by emailing us at info@transfamilies.org! We will validate your account, and then send a link.
At Trans Families, we provide programming and community for families with trans/nonbinary youth such as…
- monthly groups and forums for parents
- monthly groups and moderated chat space for youth
- workshops
- resource lists
- and more!
