Name change includes last name conundrum

Hello friends. Our 15 year came out to us in June that she is trans. When asked what she would like to be called she changed her whole name instead of just her first and middle names. Changing the last name has nothing to do with disowning the parent of current legal last name, just likes the sound of the new last name better (which is a family name of the other parent). I was wondering if other people have gone through this. We were not expecting the last name to be changed and would like the current last name to stay, but we want buy in from the 15 year old instead of a blanket no from the parents. Thoughts would be most welcome. TIA.
