It’s be a little over a now since my 18yo daughter came out to me. It’s been a very slow process with informing family members. So far only myself, other daughter, son (her twin), her dad, my mom, and my sister know. She is also on the autism spectrum. She’s extremely introverted and socially isolated. Left high school during sophomore year. Completed her GED a year later. Before quarantine, the only time she left the house was to see her therapist each week. Once the shut down happened, her therapist went to virtual appointments only. Well, she doesn’t do virtual, or any kind of online communication or social media, so she now doesn’t even see her therapist. The therapist does email her to check in, but I’m quite sure she doesn’t answer.

Anyhow, she is wanting to have bottom surgery, a full vaginoplasty, plus facial feminization and tracheal shave. She’s seen at Seattle Children’s gender clinic. They’ve given us a list of about 5 surgeons around the country as well as some therapists for writing letters.

Besides trying to figure out which surgeon to choose, I don’t know how we’re going to fulfill the mental health requirement. No one sees anyone in person. She refuses to do virtual. And I can’t get her to see anyone new anyhow. How will a surgeon take her autism into consideration?

She’s also dealing with A LOT of dysphoria. She needs someone who can help her through this far more than I’m able.
