What to do during surgery

With my kid’s top surgery just a couple weeks away, I’m wondering: parents who’ve been through this, what did you do to pass the time while your kid was in surgery? I’m picturing myself climbing the walls in the hospital waiting room for 4+ hours, and I think there must be a better approach, but darned if I know what it is.
Pls advise.
