I have a son who recently turned six. My son has identified as male since two and a half. With his young age we haven’t had to do much medically. We are between therapists right now due to logistics but are trying to get established with a new one for both gender related topics and anxiety.
We haven’t thought too far down the road as far as medically transitioning because we thought we had a while. Last week, however, at my son’s 6 year checkup, our pediatrician told us that puberty starts at 8 so we need to start thinking and planning ahead.
What have others done at this age to prepare? Honestly, I don’t think my son really understands yet. He knows he doesn’t want to grow breasts, but beyond that, when I try to talk to him he loses focus in about 20 seconds. Any suggestions on things I should be looking at, books I should be reading, people I should be talking to, etc.?
