    Hi, Dennis.

I’m not sure if I can really give a review of the film, because I’m in it. My family is one of the four that is featured.

I can tell you that 2 of the kids get blockers and are quite happy about it. The older teen girl uses pills so that is very easy. The young teen boy gets shots at first, and later gets an implant. Because of his phobias, they put him under general anesthesia for it, but the doctor does mention that it is very uncommon and not needed for most kids. My daughter isn’t shown getting her blocker, but it does show us at medical appointments talking about watching for signs of puberty and her fears about not getting blocked in time.

The fourth family starts out with a genderfluid child and both parents seem to be supportive of that. But you can see cracks in the mom’s persona and that she is struggling and really not as ready to have a trans child as she thinks. Later she says “I want to be okay, but I’m not okay” and that is when she says she hopes she doesn’t have two kids. Shortly after, her child desists. Most audiences have understood why.

Sorry if I’m giving too much away, but yes, I do think it’s fine for a 12yo. They do also show some news clips about violence, hateful politics, and horrible things said about my daughter. One child is outed and is very honest and vulnerable about his struggles. So depending on how emotionally mature your 12yo is, that might be tough. You could watch it first to see what you think, but I have heard that a lot of young people like it because they can see themselves in at least one of the kids on screen.
