News From TransFamilies

Group of teens being silly

We’d like to share with you that our Executive Director, Nikki Neuen, is moving on to new opportunities. We are so grateful for her six years of work at TransFamilies, including three serving as our Executive Director.

Nikki’s vision and heart have seeded tremendous growth within TransFamilies. Throughout her time with us, Nikki’s warmth and compassion have helped to foster and strengthen our community. She stewarded our transition to virtual programming, allowing us to continue connecting and supporting families in the isolating times of 2020 and beyond. Not only did our community continue to connect, we saw a meteoric growth in program attendance. Under Nikki’s leadership, TransFamilies…

– introduced 19 new support groups
– welcomed 1,365 new families to our community
– hired 6 new staff
– implemented 46 Trans Families programs
– increased our annual funding to almost $1M (2022)
– touched 4,867 lives
We’re honored to build on what Nikki has accomplished for TransFamilies and our community.

Our board has engaged LaJuana Johnson to serve as our Interim Executive Director. LaJuana brings a breadth of experience guiding organizations through change, and we’re confident in her leadership during this transition. Over the next several months, she will help us prepare for a new, permanent director. That search will launch in late summer.

In the meantime, we will continue to offer safety, support and healing spaces to trans/nonbinary young people and their families. There will be no impact on our support groups, one-on-one consultation, or other regular day-to-day programming.

We have no doubt that Nikki will continue to support people beautifully, in new and different ways. We know our community – all of you – mean a great deal to her. In reflecting on her time with us she shared:

“It has been my heart’s passion and delight to lead this organization through such tumultuous periods of growth and challenge. I’m proud of the programs we built together. Helping families from across the nation and around the world to keep their children alive and thriving has elated and humbled me in equal measure.”

Thank you for your leadership and compassion, Nikki — we’re so excited to see what you accomplish next. ❤️
