Webinar: Self-Care in a Time of Trans Visibility

Self Care

In 2014, Time Magazine declared that we were at the “Transgender Tipping Point,” because more transgender people were “emerging from the margins to fight for an equal place in society.” But as with all things, when there is forward movement the pendulum can swing back. That increased visibility brought with it an increase in negativity and pushback from people who had never even conceptualized that a trans community exists.

Now in 2021, the backlash has created legislative fights from coast to coast, with several dozen bills targeting transgender youth in more than half the states. This is causing a serious increase in stress and anxiety from those involved in fighting the legislation as well as those who are quietly trying to live their lives and hear the vitriol in the news or see it in the comment sections on social media.

Transgender Day of Visibility is this Wednesday, and we are planning some special things in recognition. One event in particular is a webinar for families feeling the strain of our current legislative season with its plethora of anti-trans bills. Quitting is not an option for most, so let’s be smart about how we take care of ourselves and each other.

Renowned parent activist Debi Jackson will relay strategies for protecting your privacy if you choose to be visible or vocal in activism. She is followed by author, educator, therapist, and international speaker, Michele Angello, who will give additional strategies on caring for ourselves and our loved ones during high-stress.

Registration is required. Please RSVP today.
